Aerial Yoga in Knoxville
Yoga with the support of a silk hammock hung from the rafters. It decompresses the spine, takes pressure off the joints, and lets you try inversions safely. Four classes a week, eight people per class, no experience needed.
What happens in class
Each person has a hammock set at hip height. You warm up on the floor, then use the silk for supported stretches, standing poses with a hand or foot in the hammock, and, when you're ready, inversions with the fabric wrapped around your hips. Classes end with a few minutes of rest wrapped in the hammock. The room is not heated.
Two classes
Anti-Gravity 60 is the all-levels class and the one to start with: Tuesday 7:30pm and Sunday 5pm. Sculpt & Flow is stronger and more flowing: Wednesday and Thursday at 9am, plus some Mondays.

Aerial yoga questions
Do I need to be strong or flexible to try aerial yoga?
No. The hammock takes part of your weight, which makes many poses easier than on the floor. Anti-Gravity 60 is open to all levels and most first-timers manage a supported inversion in their first class.
What should I wear?
A clean t-shirt with sleeves and leggings that cover the backs of the knees. The fabric grips bare skin, so sleeves and full-length leggings keep you comfortable. Leave jewelry, zips and belts at home, and skip body lotion that day.
How many people are in an aerial class?
Eight. Each person has their own rigged hammock, so classes fill up. Book ahead.
Is there anyone who should not do aerial yoga?
Check with your doctor first if you are pregnant, have had recent surgery, or have glaucoma, uncontrolled high blood pressure, vertigo or an inner-ear condition. Inversions are always optional and your teacher will give you an alternative.
